Aghast at rejection of museum’s bid

Dear Sir,

I am aghast that Cheshire East Council has rejected Congleton Museum's bid to transfer its work to Bradshaw House.

It seems such a sensible thing to do that I feel the council needs to rethink its priorities, even after taking into account the fi nancial pressures it is under.

The number of reasons given for this rejection also suggests that none is sufficient on its own to make the case for this questionable decision.

Congleton has a rich history and the museum's present space does not allow it to display its present artefacts, let alone any new ones.

Also, it needs the space to offer refreshments, a library facility and a room dedicated to videos of parts of the town's history to attract more visitors, both local and from further afi eld.

The history of Bradshaw House, its listed building status and its position in the town centre all call out for this building to be the new museum.

Yours faithfully,

(DR) PETER HIRST
