Developers must deliver promises

Dear Sir,

Now that Cheshire East Council's local plan has finally been put to bed, perhaps the staff will be able to divert their attention to some other pressing matters.

One is that developers do not seem to be honouring their section 106 obligations regarding cycling provision around the town.

I am told there were commitments to build two new bridges over the River Dane at Brook Street and Back Lane to improve access to Congleton Park and at the new development at Loachbrook Farm where a pedestrian and cycling route behind Congleton High School linking Sandbach and Holmes Chapel Road was secured.

It is bad enough to have these unnecessary developments around the town but, when in addition we don't get even the meagre infrastructure improvements promised, it adds insult to injury.

I sometimes wonder how many of the planning team at Cheshire East actually live in Congleton or have even visited it.

If they did they would realise that improving the cycling and walking infrastructure around the town would benefi t all those who safety manager, said: "I'm always snapping at every available opportunity. The photo was taken around Easter at Astbury village as the daffodils came out. To me it was the quintessential photo of an English village."

cycle, walk or jog and make their lives healthier and more enjoyable while reducing the number of short car journeys. - Yours faithfully,

DR PETER HIRST
