The last right a person can exercise

Dear Sir,

With regard to your article concerning assisted suicide in last week's Chronicle, p44, I would just like to comment that autonomy or control over one's body is an essential human right.

This includes the timing, place and the circumstances of death where this is possible, this being the ultimate and sometimes the last right a person can exercise.

This fundamental right must be included in any discussion of suicide, euthanasia and assisted dying.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Peter Hirst
